We are very pleased to announce that Micro Spiral Recordings are partnering with ERH Records to bring you Elsa Hewitt – ‘The Becoming Real Trilogy’ [3xCD Boxset].
Elsa has stunned us in 2017 with not one, not two but THREE incredible albums in the forms of ‘Cameras From Mars’, ‘Dum Spiro Spero’ and ‘Peng Variations’. Previously available individually as limited edition cassettes and digitally via Bandcamp, we now present you with the entire body of work in its intended form of a trilogy.
In 2016, the artist originally from Lewes, won the PRS Foundation Lynsey de Paul Prize for female songwriters and producers. In the same year, she joined Year 2 of the Future Bubblers talent scheme from Gilles Peterson and the Brownswood imprint.
2017 has seen Elsa gain support from many of the world’s finest tastemakers including the likes of Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6 Music), Andrew Jervis (Bandcamp Weekly) and Lefto (Studio Brussel / Worldwide FM) as well as seeing regular support across Worldwide FM, Hoxton Radio, Resonance FM, Innov8 Radio, Hoxton FM and more. You are also very likely to discover the work of Hewitt via many a Spotify playlist.
In addition to performing and producing her own material, Elsa has also been busy remixing and collaborating with artists such as Bambooman, Femme and Gongkreeper. Look out for more reworks and collabs too…
Stage appearances and live shows are a regular feature for this artist who has played alongside Samaris, Daisuke Tanabe, Anna Meredith, Cat’s Eyes and Olivia Louvel at gigs and festivals across the UK and abroad including a set at the legendary Jazz Cafe in Camden, London.
‘The Becoming Real Trilogy’ is a journey through worlds, each one crafted from the ground up by this gifted songwriter, producer, beatmaker, musician, writer and vocalist. Across the three albums we are treated to a variety of styles that take in lo-fi, downtempo, ambient, electronica, beats and experimental. The sound is often hazy, fuzzy and warm as infectious hooks and grooves combine with atmospheric textures and Elsa’s own ethereal vocals. Across 35 tracks, we see an artist enjoying a wealth of inspiration and high creativity where their unique take on the fusion of songwriting, beat making and electronic production delivers a fresh and innovative sound all of its own.
Welcome to the world of Elsa Hewitt…

‘Designer Scribble’ – ‘A Favourite of 2016’ Album for The Soap Company
The Soap Company has been delivering sublime monthly selections of new music for some time now. These really are an invaluable guide to what is happening across all genres.
From an incredible 3,300 new albums listened to in 2016, The Soap Company created their ‘Favourite 50 Albums of 2016’. The list contains incredible records from across the musical spectrum (No.1 Entry Josef Leimberg – ‘Astral Progressions’ on World Galaxy is a total gem). Within the selection at No.46 is ‘Designer Scribble’ by our very own Scaramanga Silk.
‘Designer Scribble’ – ‘A Top Artwork Cover 2016’ for Review Reviews
The cover artwork for ‘Designer Scribble’ is by the gifted Konx-om-Pax (Planet Mu / http://displaycopy.net/) and was created based on a concept inspired by Frank Auerbach.
The Taiwan based site Review Reviews recently included the ‘Designer Scribble’ Album Cover in their ‘Top Artwork Of Covers 2016’ list. There are some stunning pieces of artwork which are incredible pieces of art in their own right in this selection.
Many thanks to Don Letts for the Pilote airplay on his ‘Culture Clash Radio’ Show, BBC Radio 6 Music show last night. Track played was album opener ‘Clover’ and it closed the show.
Watch Snooker Legend and DJ, Steve Davis spin Scaramanga Silk – ‘Macrynimyze’ at DJ Mag Live alongside Kavus Torabi (on Thursday 10th November, 2016). Wait for the drops… (The boys ‘ave it!)
And unsurprisingly, Steve was rather nifty at cueing up the record… (thanks Kin;Aesthetic)

Esteemed producer Stuart Cullen returns with ‘Libero’, the 7th album under his Pilote moniker. Following on from 2013’s well received LP ‘The Slowdown’, this time Mr Cullen breaks out his songwriting skills to add to the mix of traditional folk stylings and more contemporary electronic production, and drafts in a range of vocalists to bring the record to life.
Over nine tracks, the album blends lilting waltzes and driving blues to startling effect. The hypnotic album opener ‘Clover’ leads into the ‘blues-rave’ of ‘BoxKart’ featuring the unmistakable voice of American bluesman Charlie Parr. Re-worked from an old instrumental, ’The Ballad of Titus Bramble’ then tells a surreal, existential tale of love in a time of woe. The trad bluegrass tune ‘Train On The Island’ is re-imagined as a beautiful waltz, with Tom Holder, roped in from Bristol scallywags ‘The Railway Sleepers’, providing lead vocals. Jo Nye then adds some sass on ‘The 45’, a paean to the 7” single. The mercurial Clemency Jones then takes over vocal duties on the infectious ‘Hog Farm Blues’, an Orwellian omen of a mistake that may already have been made….. Beck Lanehart then lends her beautiful voice to ‘Zetterling’s Ghost’ before ‘Libero’ comes to an end with the slow burning, all waltzing ‘Shoes On My Feet’.
‘Libero’ shows a true artist who continues to evolve their sound, ideas and repetoire with every work. This album is a beautiful listen from start to finish that transcends generations and genres to present a record for one and all to enjoy.
With over a decade of releases on labels including Domino, Certificate 18, Phonobox and A Future Without, Pilote has become a firm favourite amongst Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq, Cerys Matthews, Gideon Coe and many others.
